Picking out a domain name can be really fun. A domain name is the URL address that people type into their browser to get to your website. By now the internet has been around for a while and in my opinion most common urls have already been taken. Some people even make it their sole business to buy urls and sell them for MORE 💲💲💲 MONEY.

Some lucky people have bought domain names early on in the .com boom, only to find years later that the URL they have been harboring is wanted by multiple large companies! Sometimes if a person really wants the name they will pay thousands and even millions of dollars to own it.

Imagine if you had bought apple.(com) before Apple did! Now before you rush off and start buying domain names take note that you still have to pay a yearly renewal fee for the domain name. 😅

Did you know, if a person forgets to pay to renew their domain name – the domain name becomes available for other people to grab.

I’ve experienced wanting to buy a website name only to find out it was unavailable.

So what does this mean ?

It means if you want to buy a domain name, you need to get creative. If you own a plumbing company you can’t just buy plumbing .(com). When I look for domain names I remember these points:

1) is it specific to my business,
2) is it EASY to remember,
3) how does it look written out on a business card,
4) is it easy to tell someone over the phone (emphasis on spelling)

Simplicity is key – but a lot can be said for a creative URL name that leaves a lasting impression.

If the question is about whether you should buy .com, .net, .biz.. remember .com is KING. People will always remember the .com better. Another tip is if they read your website name on the radio would people remember your URL? Would they know how to spell it? Thats just a test to see how easy it is to pass along by word of mouth.

If you have some questions about buying a domain, feel free to leave a comment or send an email.
